Will you see "The Next Big Thing" coming?

10 years ago Amazon stock was sitting in 90$ tag and while many of us were aware that eCommerce was really cool thing and internet propagation might bring it to a huge level of influence at global scale.... we have to admit....  apart from Jeff Bezos and it's leadership team nobody else saw it coming as clearly as they did...  just 10 years later Amazon's market valuation is x20 times higher and there are signals it could sky rocket even more!
If you didn't acquire Amazon stocks 10 years ago you didn't see it coming!

"Digital Disruption" book from James McQuivey talks exactly about this...  influence of technology in all industries over the last decade and powerful transformations that only few companies have been ready to tackle smoothly.

In that book James describes that of course "Next big thing" will remain unseen by the vast majority of us because we are not the chosen ones  but also describes some elements that bring a bit of hope.

It's the concept of  "Adjacent possible".

"Adjacent possible" is the kind of actions that we can make to test things with those assets that are under our control... it's not about inventing new business models or technology it's about spending a small amount of our resources to explore different ways of doing what we do but with different technology... no need to go far away just exploring the edge of our knowledge could be enough to unleash amazing opportunities for your organization.

Looking at past years we can see good of examples of traditional organizaton that took "adjacent possible" approach succesfully.... I could recall impressive results of Disney with mobile gaming apps or BBVA bank when applied a powerful layer of gamification & analytics to their traditional customer service strategies.

Do you have any "Adjacent possible" experiences worth trying?  Looking forward to hear from you!
